Wow! We can’t believe how the summer months have escaped us! Hope everyone had a great summer! And now that the countdown has begun to Fall, we are ramping up for a big season ahead of us. Lots of news so stay tuned. But before that we want to introduce you to our Pros for September: Yoga Pro LA, Hilary Jackendoff and Fitness Pro NY, Yvonne Mo. These ladies are gearing up for a fantastic season and ready to share some tidbits with you! Check them out!

HILARY JACKENDOFF, Yoga Pro LA

Hilary started her yoga practice to help manage chronic joint and muscle pain, fatigue and anxiety. It eventually flourished into a necessity in her life and a practice she wanted other to benefit from. She focuses on increasing breath and body awareness, focused breath work, as well as meditation or deep relaxation in all her sessions. Hilary’s goal is for her students to become more grounded, confident and relaxed in their bodies and minds. And translate their yoga practice into a lifestyle practice.

QUESTION #1: What is your favorite book and why?
Jitterbug Perfume by Tom Robbins, because it inspires me to believe in and seek out magic in my life. I also love that Tom Robbins weaves allusions to ancient yogic practices throughout the book!

QUESTION #2: New season calls for a new routine. What are 2 things you add to your routine in the Fall?
Fall is allergy season for me! I will be practicing Neti 2-3 times a week to cleanse my sinuses and I’ll be including local bee pollen in my smoothies!

QUESTION #3: What yoga pose or exercise do you struggle with the most? And what techniques or tools help you with it?
I struggle epically with headstand. It’s mostly a psychological struggle because I have the strength for it – I just don’t like putting so much pressure on my cervical spine! I still try to practice it at least once a week. I warm up with Dolphin and I use the wall for support so I feel safe and supported!

 

YVONNE MO, Fitness Pro NY

Yvonne “Mo” started her fitness journey at a young age competing in Karate and Track & Field. She instantly fell in love with fitness through her trainings and workouts at an early age of 16 and was already working in a gym. Mo has coached athletes for body building, track and field, and strength training using all fitness tools from Kettlebells, to ViPr, to TRX. Her passion lies with her clients striving and attaining their goals. She sincerely cares for her clients’ success and always brings her infectious energy to every session, making every workout super fun.

QUESTION #1: What is your favorite book and why?
The Diet Doc’s Guide to Permanent Weight Loss: Secrets to Metabolic Transformations by Joe Klemczewski and J. Uloth.

It is one of the best books I’ve found that is both scientifically driven and emotionally understanding of proper diet. It doesn’t sugar coat anything and also gives advice through motivational interviewing and insight of human nature in our demanding society.

QUESTION #2: New season calls for a new routine. What are 2 things you add to your routine in the Fall?
I’ll be changing back muscle weight training to low rep and heavy weight to account for the high volume of body weight back exercises that’s in indoor sport rock climbing. I will also  be focusing on heavy isolation leg exercises to ensure my joints are less stressed while keeping the strength training of my legs to account for my high level of lower body use in Karate training this Fall as I will be competing.

QUESTION #3: What yoga pose or exercise do you struggle with the most? And what techniques or tools help you with it?
Single leg deadlift with kettle bells. I practice exercises that force balance such as the tree pose, work on agility such as ladder drills, and strength such as the normal deadlift, so I can put all three skills together to do a single leg deadlift with weights.
